LFrank Wardrobe is the result of a passion for personal luxury and a love of exquisite detail. It is the natural evolution of LFrank Lingerie, which began as a quest to create the perfect set of underpinnings and nightwear using the finest available fabrics with a commitment to the art of a beautifully tailored garment. Having attracted a loyal and appreciative community of devotees, this collection has become the very foundation of a modern feminine wardrobe.
The silhouettes have been refined over the years, growing to include pieces of both inner and outerwear. We offer the perfect slip to wear as a dress or to sleep, the most chic and covetable silk robes to wear at home or out and about, and many other pieces that have become integral to a well-curated closet. Each piece works together beautifully, uniquely layering and enhancing the female form with a classic sensibility.
Just as with LFrank Jewelry, the ever-evolving LFrank Wardrobe collection is manufactured exclusively in Los Angeles by highly skilled artisans in limited quantities. Each piece is painstakingly crafted using only the highest quality materials: imported silks and French lace trimmings, a curated selection of fabrics from Liberty of London in both silk and cotton, Italian and Japanese men’s shirting cottons, and sublime cashmere and wool blends.
The thoughtful development and attention to detail is evident in each item, from exquisite accents such as custom designed 18k gold plated buttons, to specially made elastics, trimmings, and fastenings. This creates a perfect synchronicity, both in philosophy and in execution. Utilizing a modern approach to sustainability, every piece we make, whether bespoke or otherwise, is often one-of or few-of a kind, thereby eliminating waste and excess wherever possible. By its very nature, this process of creation conveys a deep sense of the individual, graciously extending the very ethos of personal luxury to our clients with every piece.
For the LFrank Wardrobe collection, we use the finest imported silks, cottons, and woolens. Silk fabric was first developed in ancient China, and has been known and used across Asia and in Europe since ancient times. It was the most sought after luxury item across the Eurasian continent, with evidence of the silk trade spanning not only centuries, but also the far reaches of the globe. Silk is one of the strongest of natural fibers, and as such has incredible longevity and durability. It also has a natural affinity for being combined with gold and gemstones. As an extension of the LFrank Jewelry collection, the silk fabrics used in the Wardrobe collection relate beautifully to the concept of luxury, craft, and refinement.
In addition to the finest imported silk charmeuse, double georgette, crinkle chiffon, cashmere, wool, and velvet we also offer a range of pieces made in a selection of prints from The Liberty of London Art Silk collection. This is a collection of new and original designs inspired by the world of fine art, and produced in England by the storied Liberty fabric house, which has been manufacturing fabrics for over one hundred years.
The Swiss cotton we use is made from the finest possible cotton in the world. Only three percent of all cotton grown in the entire world qualifies for use in the manufacture of Swiss cotton fabric. The long fiber is what gives it both such an incredibly fine hand and its exceptional quality. We also use the highest quality Italian shirting cotton fabric in both our men’s and women’s sleepwear collections. These cottons are light, and perfect for the warmer summer months. The quality and beauty of these cottons is immediately apparent.
I chose all of these special fabrics not only because of their inherent beauty, but also for their specific qualities. Chiffon has a diaphanous and lighter-than-air feel that is both alluring and rather magical to the touch. Charmeuse is known for its luminous and languid appeal, which I use unexpectedly on the reverse for some pieces, and as a sumptuous lining for others. The double georgette has an unparalleled drape and weight, which I find to be the height of elegance. The silk velvet has such a luxurious feeling, as does the wool, mink and cashmere blend we use for both men’s and women’s robes. The Loro Piana woolens are of the highest quality, and lend a sense of luxury to the collection. As with all fabrics, we buy in small quantities and make pieces in bespoke or limited editions, using every possible square inch of yardage so as to minimize any potential loss or waste.
I have long been a devotee of fine lace, and have been seduced by not only the finished product, but also by the detailed craftsmanship involved in the process. Lace became more popular and widespread in the late sixteenth century, after first being exclusively used in religious ceremony. The popularity of lace spread across borders throughout Europe, and it became not only a fashion, but a craft as well. A trip to the island of Burano in Venice in the summer of 2012, and a visit to its famed Museo del Merletto, further cemented my life-long love affair with lace, and inspired my desire to work with this delicate luxury element.
The lace in the LFrank Wardrobe collection is all from the venerable French house of Solstiss, a company dedicated to maintaining the tradition of lace making in Northern France. I have chosen several designs from the Solstiss collection to work with, ranging from a corded style to a more delicate and soft Chantilly lace. All are made in France, and some are custom dyed to match our silks.
As with my jewelry collection, I am delighted to offer custom creations for clients who desire a special color or fit option.
Custom design work is taken on at my discretion, and is not always possible, due to time and/or material constraints. The best way to approach a custom design proposal is to visit our boutique in Venice, California. If you are out of the area, please email or telephone us: firstname.lastname@example.org or 310 452 0771 .
As we all know, the details are everything, and with pieces worn close to the skin it can be especially so. To that end, I designed and created several distinctive details worth noting for the LFrank Wardrobe collection. From the 18K gold twice-plated button accents, to the adjustable strap detail on the slips and camisoles, and the attached belt on the dressing gowns, there are elements that make each piece truly special. These features are crafted to meet both an aesthetic and a functional standard, hence the custom made elastics, fasteners, and packaging. Each piece of LFrank Wardrobe comes with a beautiful sateen garment bag that can be used as a lingerie pouch for travel, or for storing your precious garments.
Love, Honor + Respect is a concept that I bring to every engagement and wedding project that I undertake. I love making wedding bands and engagement rings, and in fact it is one of my favorite aspects of being a jewelry designer. To expand on this, I have created the special collection of LFrank Trousseau within the Love, Honor + Respect category to represent the pieces that comprise the classic elements of a bridal and honeymoon wardrobe. The pieces in this collection are available in the softest Pearl color, a warm and luminous, light shade of ivory, a smooth, cool Platinum grey color, and the most elegant blush color, which we call Rose Gold. Some pieces are then accented with greige lace from Solstiss, which is in its natural un-dyed state. I have also included several selections of the palest prints from the Liberty of London Art Silk collection, in silk crepe de chine, silk charmeuse, and the sheerest silk chiffons.
